She thanked the university community for having supported her during her tenure as Vice Chancellor.

THE Rector and Vice Chancellor of University of Zululand, Professor Fikile NM Mazibuko, has resigned.
In a letter addressed to the University Council, Prof Mazibuko said she wished to resign to pursue other interests. The resignation is applicable with immediate effect
She said an opportunity had presented itself and she felt the time was right for her to take it.
Prof Mazibuko, who joined the University on 1 February 2010, had already indicated to Council that she would not seek an extension on her term of office which was to come to an end in January.
She thanked the university community for having supported her during her tenure as Vice Chancellor.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor for Teaching and Learning, Professor Xoliswa Mtose, will serve acting Vice Chancellor until the Council appoints a new candidate.
Council Chairman Cyril Gamede said the Council had deliberated extensively on the choice of acting Vice Chancellor and asked the staff to support Mtose in the interim..
Gamede indicated there is no crisis at the University, saying it remained in a healthy financial position.
Investigate truly why this happened suddenly especially after her labour court appeal against a possible suspension by the Council last week.
