LAST month’s CANSA uThungulu Relay For Life (RFL) event raised a whopping R167 000 to support the fight against cancer.
The figure was released at an appreciation dinner courtesy of Shalom Catering, hosted at the ZCBF Community Park on Monday evening.
Pride of place on the night went to the Bell Equipment team, who not only raised almost R59 000, but also contributed greatly to the spirit and success of the event.
Speaking at the function, CANSA Regional Manager Cara Noble said she had received ‘a wonderful report back’ on the local relay.
‘My personal experience in being there also showed what a tremendous spirit there is among the Zululand community, brought together by the great work done by the organising committee.
‘I have no doubt that lives were changed during the interaction between people who share a common denominator in that cancer has affected their lives.
‘The funds raised will go towards our three areas of activity, namely research, education and support.
‘I am pleased to say that we are currently doing interviews and are in the process of uplifting the CANSA uThungulu branch and I am grateful for all the support we enjoy from this community,’ said Noble.
Certificates were presented to sponsors as well as to RFL category winners.
