Fire guts Zini home
A Mtunzini man has lost everything after his home burnt to the ground.
TRAGEDY struck well-known retired Mtunzini academic Burgert Roberts on Saturday night when a fire razed his home to the ground.
Roberts was reportedly asleep when a candle fall over and set the kitchen on fire.
The fire department was called and according to onlookers who tried to help control the blaze, the fire truck from eShowe only arrived almost an hour later.
‘The first fire truck took 45 minutes too respond from Ginginglovu, and 20 minutes later the fully equipped fire engine arrived from eShowe.
By that time it was too late as the fire had already spread from the kitchen to the whole house.
According to close friend Koos Best Roberts has lost everything.
His library was stacked with irreplaceable African literature. He also had a massive collection of NASA literature, even a space shuttle astronaut manual which has all gone up in smoke. When I found him on Sunday morning he was looking for his two fox terriers.’
