Water utility announces new CEO

Sibusiso Makhanya takes the reigns at Mhlathuze Water to drive the utility forward.

Mhlathuze Water has welcomed Sibusiso Makhanya as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Since he joined the organisation in 2008, Makhanya has filled various leadership positions as General Manager of Engineering Services, Chief Operations Officer and most recently Acting CEO.

His extensive knowledge, ranging from civil engineering to management, has made him the most popular candidate for the prominent role.

‘I am honoured to have been asked to take this role and excited about the possibilities that lie in our future,’ said Makhanya.

As an ardent supporter of community development, one of his top priorities is to ensure the utility extends water and sanitation infrastructure to rural communities.

‘Since I grew up in a similar environment, an opportunity for me to help develop community life is always appreciated.’

He also hopes to inspire more youth members to study and enter commerce, science and engineering fields to contribute to the country’s economic growth.

‘It is a privilege for me to lead the delivery of the Board strategy, providing organisational direction and implementing policies to improve the relationship between the board, executives and clients, as well as managing the organisation’s risk,’ said Makhanya.

‘This is a demanding and challenging position to be in, but I am positive about the impact I can have on Mhlathuze Water and the water sector at large.’
