Breaking News: School children injured in crash
Truck collides with bakkie transporting school children.
A MONDAY afternoon trip home from school left 15 young children traumatised after a truck driver skipped a red robot and smashed into the Hyundai bakkie transporting them.
The furniture truck from Johannesburg en route to Richards Bay, was travelling down Main Road in Empangeni and collided with the bakkie at the intersection with Higgs Road.
The bakkie was transporting children from various Empangeni schools between the ages of six and 10.

Although only one child sustained serious head injuries and paramedics said there were only a few other minor injuries, all pupils were taken to Ngwelezana Hospital for observation.
The driver of the truck, a 32-year-old Zimbabwean national who presented a visiting passport on the scene, admitted to skipping the red robot and was taken into custody at the Empangeni SAPS holding cells.

Oh my word!I read about the story of school children who got injured in a bakkie crash from school.this is very sad for me as we lose our children on a daily basis.May God be with these kids throughout their recovery at hospital. This Zimbabwean mean deserves to be jailed cause de doesn’t comply with the rules of the road. This is south Africa, everything should be strict…”devastated”
Seems to be a daily occurrence reading and hearing on the radio news about accidents happening all over South Africa. The statistics of road accidents in SA is shocking. Do the companies who run these trucks do regular checks on the driving skills of their drivers? Are there penalties these companies pay for their drivers negligence? Let me also guess none of the children at the back of the bakki were strapped in either. Thus both parties at fault.
