Eshowe man dies in accident

His wife was found lying next to the wreck in a critical condition.

ESHOWE is in shock after hearing the news of the death of Brett Oscroft (33) in an accident near Hillcrest on Saturday evening.

His wife, Mellisa (28), was critically injured in the incident on the M13 and is being treated in hospital.

The ER24 paramedics attended the scene and on their arrival found Brett’s vehicle down an embankment, wedged against a tree.

On assessment, paramedics discovered that Brett had been pinned inside his vehicle after it struck the tree and despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.

Mellisa was found lying next to the wrecked vehicle in a critical condition.

Paramedics immediately treated her, providing her with advanced life support before transporting her to Hillcrest Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Witnesses told paramedics that the vehicle swerved for a vehicle which was travelling on the wrong side of the road. Brett’s vehicle rolled down an embankment before colliding with a tree.

The exact cause of the collision is being investigated by the local authorities.

Brett’s funeral service will take place on Saturday at St John’s United Church, Pietermaritzburg at 10.30am.
