No more temporary SA passports

The turnaround time for permanent passports has improved, rendering the issuance of temporary passports redundant.

THE Home Affairs Department announced yesterday that no more temporary passports will be issued from 1 September.

The temporary passport was initially issued as an interim travel document due to longer turnaround times taken to issue a permanent tourist passport.

The department has became aware that South Africans travelling abroad and to neighbouring countries were refused entry if they had temporary passports.

The statement states, only an emergency travel certificate (ETC) will be issued to an applicant under circumstances of emergency travel purposes… to countries that accept ETCs for purposes of assisting family members in distress or if a family member is deceased.

  1. Well the last time I applied for the renewal of my passport it took 5 months as the department lost my application. I went through 4 temporary passports in this time. I was assured that it would only take 6 weeks
Lets see the next time I need to renew
