Little interest in AWB meeting

Poor support for AWB meeting in Richards Bay.

PRAYER and repentance, not weapons, will restore the Afrikaner to his ‘rightful place’ in South Africa.

Speaking to a meagre audience in Richards Bay on Thursday, leader of the Afrikanse Weerstandsbeweging (AWB), Steyn von Ronge said war could never bring about a solution.

‘It was part of God’s plan to take this land away from us because we failed to follow honour Him.

‘Whenever our forefathers failed, it was because they did not keep their covenant.

‘Only He can give our land back, if we are humble, leave our corrupt lifestyles and sinful practices, and seek Him.

‘A miracle will happen; He will send a leader.

‘He is punishing us because we have forgotten our vows to Him.’

Ronge was derisive of white leaders and political parties who did not want to be classified as ‘right (wing)’ but rather as ‘conservative’.

He condemned the many splinter groups among Afrikaans-speaking people, ‘liberal’ groups such as Solidarity, and blamed the NG Kerk for ‘division and lies’.

‘We are unashamedly right and we take pride in being white.

‘We are a resistance movement and will resist any attempt to rob us of our rightful place in our land.’

Ronge said the AWB is in negotiation with the country’s top leadership, as well as the United Nations, over the demand for an Afrikaner homeland.

However, Ronge ended by saying: ‘If we don’t get given land, we will take and defend it’.

The movement has a training camp where young people are taught, among others, self-defence and the use of weapons.

Earlier, speaking in the context of ‘a government, democracy and constitution that have failed’, Kom-Gen Chris van Wyk condemned corruption, low police and army morale, farm attacks and lack of border fence security.
