Update: Safety procedures in place at Port

Port of Richards Bay procedures in place to prevent the spread of any contagious disease.

TRANSNET Port Authority has released a memorandum outlining the procedures to prevent the spread of any contagious disease including the Ebola virus.

This comes after Liberian container ship, Hammonia Pacificum was quarantined this week in the Richard Bay harbour.

The Harbour Master, Captain Sabelo Mdlalose said ‘it will be prudent to implement measures to safeguard our Ports against exposure to the threat posed by visiting vessels’.

Subsequent to this, Transnet National Ports authority and the relevant stakeholders will be addressing Port users today and tomorrow on the safety protocol regarding ships from West Africa.
