Obuka based NPO Luwamba Multi Purpose Centre needs assistance in helping poverty stricken community members.
SITUATED on the outskirts of Ntambanana, non-profit organisation (NPO) Luwamba Multi-purpose Centre in Obuka needs assistance for two special cases they have encountered.
Caring for orphans, vulnerable children and poverty stricken families, Luwamba distributes food parcels and runs a soup kitchen at the local school provided there are sufficient resources.
Consisting of 14 community caregivers, site facilitator Zanele Xulu says the area they cover is large and there are too many people in need.
‘We are funded by the Department of Social Development and recently, the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF) donated a large sum of money to the NPO as a down payment on a car and various other necessities,’ said Xulu.
‘We also rely on any kind of donation and are in desperate need of additional funding.
‘In July we managed to donate an additional 20 food parcels with our usual 50 and ran our school soup kitchen with ease, thanks to the donation received by the NLDTF.
‘We are encounter all kinds of situations that are terribly hear breaking.
Recently, we came across a man who is blind and receives a grant, but his family member misuses the money and he lives in a poorly sheltered rondavel.
‘We also met a mentally unstable man who lives alone in the poorest of conditions. We desperately need to help these men, but do not have the capacity to supply shelter or buildings.
‘It is a big challenge and on behalf of these people I am begging for additional assistance. We have done all we can in our power to help, but these men need proper roofs over their heads,’ said Xulu.
To help, contact Luwamba Chairperson Jabulani Dubazane on 071 321 9012.
