THE curiosity of a young boy ended in tragedy when he accidentally shot himself yesterday in the Madwaleni Reserve in Mtubatuba.
According to Captain Mdletshe of the Mtubatuba police, the seven-year-old got hold of his uncle’s homemade gun which was hidden under a mattress and inspected it.
‘It is believed the victim accidentally pressed the trigger while looking inside the barrel,’ Mdlestshe explained.
According to the child’s mother, she rushed into the house after hearing the shot and found her son in a pool of blood.
The boy was rushed to the local clinic at Madwaleni and was later transferred to Ngwelelzane Hospital, where he died while being treated.
The KwaMsane police has opened an inquest for investigation and have charged the uncle with possession of a homemade firearm.
The uncle has not yet been arrested as he fled the scene after the incident.
