Aerial boardwalk closure on hold
A two-year period will be used by the management to find ways of making the facility self-sustainable.
THE Dlinza Forest Aerial Boardwalk closure is on hold, depending on a final decision by uMlalazi Municiaplity to bail the facility out of its financial woes.
At a public meeting, called by the uMlalazi mayor, Cllr TB Zulu, he undertook to put forward a motion offering the management of the Boardwalk a two-year life-line.
Although an amount was discussed, this and the final approval of the grant will only be approved at a full council meeting on Tuesday, 24 June.
Mayor Zulu said the two-year period must be used by the management to find ways of making the facility self-sustainable.
He said the management cannot rely, or expect, the municipality to continue bailing out the Boardwalk when in difficulties.
It always amazes me how municipalities always behave as if they have no control over the management of their resources, and it’s always someone else’s fault… I have done the walk numerous times and to quite frank it’s just another example of the lack of marketing and foresight. Surely the expense incurred to build this structure was considered and a plan of action to recoup these costs was determined and discussed? Just another white elephant that will rot and inevitably fall apart because of the lack of planning and marketing on the part of the Municipality.
