A R700 million development expands bay
New development will create 5 000 jobs.
Richards Bay will have a new 361 307 hectare, R700 million housing development dubbed Royal Creek within the next year .
Situated north of Birdswood, on land belonging to paper and pulp giant Sappi South Africa, the township is spearheaded by Sappi in conjunction with Mutual Construction Company (MCC), Lereko Investments and AMB Capital.
The development will include residential, commercial and education stands; a filling station, community facilities, a hospital, frail-care, worship and pre-school stands, a high school, two primary schools and an electrical substation.
Residential properies will boast 262 single residential stands, a retirement village consisting of 265 units, medium density residential stands comprising 2 422 units with a density of 30 units per hectare.
High density residential stands comprise 3 177 units with a density of 60 units per hectare.
‘This development is important for this area as there is currently no vacant land available and the only direction Richards Bay can expand is to the North,’ said Clarence de Wet Inc Consultant Wimpie Malan.
‘It could also create about 5 000 jobs per day during the entire development period which could take more than 15 years.’
Royal Creek developers also highlighted that it will be an environmentally friendly housing component which will lead to economic growth in the area and fulfil the need for rental accommodation options.
Marketing for the development is scheduled to take off between next month and May.
‘We hope to start civil work on site by August to have the necessary utilities available for property owners to start building their homes in April next year.
‘But ultimately, the starting date will by activated by results from marketing the development.’
