Highway trashed with mountains of rubbish
A total of 1 400 bags are filled with litter discarded on the N2 between Empageni and Umdloti
EVERY month litter discarded from vehicles travelling on the N2 between Empangeni and Umdloti (near King Shaka Airport), fills no fewer than 1 400 bags.
The South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) employs a contractor to clean up the 138km stretch of road at the beginning of each month.
‘An emerging sub-contractor is appointed for each of four sections along this route to conduct routine road maintenance and picking up litter,’ said SANRAL Environmental Manager Mpati Makoa.
