Suspects who fled police in dramatic John Ross chase return to court on Tuesday
THE five men who were caught on Pelican Island on Tuesday after attempting to flee from police in a dramatic chase on the John Ross Parkway will return to the Richards Bay Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (Tuesday).
Thabani Dlangisa (27), Sibusiso Khwela (36), Mxolisi Mbuyazi (21), Musawenkosi Mngoma (26) and Bhekuyise Nhliziyo (26) first appeared in court on Thursday and are being kept at the Richards Bay SAPS holding cells while police continue to investigate their fingerprints for possible links to other crimes in Zululand.
The suspects, who are from KwaMashu and Newlands in the Durban area, were caught red-handed when a member of the Richards Bay SAPS who while driving in the neighbourhood, saw them jumping over a Veldenvlei resident’s wall .
After reporting the incident, the SAPS Operational Response Unit set up a road block on the John Ross.
However, their black Polo raced past and police gave chase, firing several bullets in an attempt to stop the absconders.
Their vehicle was found abandoned at the Bay Hall and the Empangeni K9 Unit arrested all five men hiding in the bush on Pelican Island.
