TRAVEL ALERT: Melmoth road mayhem

COMMUNITY members, claiming that they were promised work by the contractors rehabilitating the R66 between eShowe and Nkwalini, have barricaded the road at the P230 (Mandawe Cross turnoff).

There is a heavy police, RTI and uMlalazi Municipal prescence at the scene.

Motorists are being diverted at the R66 / R34 intersection at Nkwalini and outside eShowe.

Motorists wishing to reach eShowe will need to travel via Empangeni.

Traffic from Gingindlovu and Durban to eShowe is unaffected.

It is not yet clear when the road will be reopened.
