THE checkered flag has been claimed, the engine noise has died down and the smell of burning rubber has faded.

But a faint whiff of petrol fumes still lingers as a reminder that only days before, the oval track in Richards Bay was filled with the thunderous cacophony of race cars being pushed to the limit as drivers looked to clinch the top spot.
