Walk, pedal or paddle against peddlers
Walk, pedal or paddle against peddlers in the annual Sanca/Bay Watch 'Walk Away from Drugs' family fun day
THE seventh annual Sanca/Bay Watch ‘Walk Away from Drugs’ family fun day takes place on 26 October – with some exciting new addition.
Mountain bikers, stand-up paddlers and the Zululand Canoe Club will be adding a ‘Paddle and Pedal Against Peddlers’ element.
Thanks to Commmodore Rod Banwell and the Zululand Yacht Club, the event now has a superb new venue.
As usual, the emphasis is on the fun aspect, and none of the entrants in any of the events will be racing for first place.
The aim is to promote and raise funds for Sanca, create awareness of drug and alcohol abuse and promote healthy outdoor activities as an alternative to an addictive lifestyle.
Entry fee for the walk, cycle or paddle events is only R10 for adults and R5 for children.
Clubs, families, companies, individuals and groups of sizes are encouraged to take part.
This includes ‘dressing up’ and bringing along a slogan or banner to win one of the many prizes on offer.
The day registration will be open for all from 7am. Schools may pre-register.
Once again, BHP Billiton has sponsored a computer and printer for the school with the most entrants who arrive on the day.
The programme, including the entertaining warm-up to music, starts at 8.30am with the colourful mass walk setting off from the Yacht Club at 9am for the 5.7km loop around Naval Island.
There are plenty of water tables along the route, each with a planned fun activity, and walkers may turn back at any stage if they don’t want to do the full distance.
Thanks to the City of uMhlathuze traffic department as well as Sanca marshalls, safety will be a priority.
Netcare 911 have also volunteered their services in support of Sanca.
There will be plenty of refreshments on sale during the morning, including sit-down brunches at the ZYC restaurant.
For more information contact the Sanca office on 035 7723290 or Dave on 072 3920511.
Donations and prizes would be welcomed.
