DESPITE the general global slump in coal trade as more power plants switch to natural gas, the Port of Richards Bay has seen a steady climb in bulk exports over the past three months.
Since September, total bulk shipped has risen by 4.2% from 7.8-million metric tons to 8.1-million MT.
Total bulk handled similarly went up by 4.1% from 8.3 million to 8.6 million MT.
Breakbulk seems to be recovering from a sudden 25% fall in exports from September (336 424 MT) to October (251 760 MT), after rising by 15% (289 394 MT) in November.
Total cargo handled steadily grew by 3.4% from 8.6 million MT in September to 8.9 million MT last month.
