UPDATE: Man left ‘mentally unstable’ after stabbing

Police are searching for the thug who attacked an elderly man in eShowe.

A MANHUNT is underway for a suspect believed to be responsible for the vicious attack on an elderly man in eShowe last Sunday.

Vusimuzi Dubazane (57) was left disfigured after a young man repeatedly stabbed him in the face with a bottle at Mbiza Number 2 Reserve.

It is said the Dubazane was walking to his house when the attacker approached him.

He sustained deep injuries to his face and was only discharged from the eShowe Hospital on Thursday.

eShowe SAPS spokesperson Capt TT van Vuuren, said a case has been opened and they are searching for the suspect.

According to the family, the frail man is now ‘mentally unstable’ and has speech difficulties.

‘He was badly injured, and now can’t talk properly. My brother has been a target of these youngsters in the area before and has been attacked several times.

‘These incidents have deeply affected him and sometimes he doesn’t even know who he is,’ said the victim’s distraught sister, Fikile Dubazane.

‘I hope the police will identify and catch this young man. All I want to see is justice for my brother.’
