WITH little over a week to go before work stops for the holidays, great progress has been made with laying of the geobag coastal defence wall at Alkantstrand.

By Friday, 617 bags had been placed leaving just rows 10 and 11 of the bags still to be laid along the 80 metre section from the lifeguard house northwards.

These should be completed by Friday this week.

Work will also begin on the 3m wide steps leading down to the beach.

Despite warning signs that have been erected at the construction site, the municipality is concerned that many beachgoers are still venturing into the dangerous area, potentially exposing themselves to danger.
