Cops bust security guard for stealing R2-million

For a few glorious days, an Empangeni security guard was a millionaire.

AN Empangeni man became Zululand’s newest and briefest millionaire after he snagged a bag containing R2-million in cash.

The security guard was arrested earlier this month after he was caught on CCTV walking off with the money.

Empangeni Detectives were baffled by the actions of the man who up until the arrest was working as a driver for the company.

Upon completing a delivery, he noticed that a bag of cash had been left behind in his vehicle.

According to police, he then grabbed the bag and walked with it under his arm into the security company depot building.

He then hid a portion of the cash in a storeroom, while hiding the rest in the boot of his private vehicle.

An internal investigation by the company quickly tracked down the driver who was captured in the act on CCTV cameras placed around the facility.

He was subsequently arrested and charged with theft, while around R1.9 million of the cash was recovered, stashed in several hiding places.

He is due to appear soon in the Empangeni Magistrate’s Court.
