AS far as Muslims are concerned, ISIS and its representatives are terrorists.
The Muslim people do not recognise ISIS as an Islamic state, or a legitimate Islamic caliphate.
Had the order been legitimate, billions of Muslims around the world would have gladly joined hands with them.
But, they have acted contrary to the teachings of the Koran and the way of the Prophet.
According to the laws of Jihad, targeting innocent civilians is strictly forbidden. We are taught to treat even our captives with respect and dignity.
Islam is a religion of principle, moral and strongly believes in human dignity. Our very greeting means ‘peace be upon you’.
ISIS might reportedly say that they are Muslims, but they do not adhere to the core essentials of Islam.
The majority of Muslims condemn racism, bigotry, anti-Semitism and speak out against Islamic extremism anywhere. We have many foreign Muslims from all over the world in our communities, and they stand with us in our prayers as equals.
Unfounded rumours
The Muslim people will stand firmly against ISIS in South Africa. ISIS supporters are not welcome in our community. The rumours of secret ISIS supporters is unfounded. ISIS has no supporters among our ranks.
The situation has once again become a case of the actions of a minority smearing the name of the majority.
Every time there’s an event, all fingers are pointed at Muslims, and we become the victims in return.
The Muslim people will stand united against the surge of Islamophobia that has sprung up after the recent attacks.
What happened in Paris is truly sad, and we cry alongside the world for the atrocities committed.
But let us not forget for a moment about all the other people who are killed in the same manner everywhere else. Who is crying for the people in Syria, in Afghanistan, Iraq or Palestine?
They are casualties in a war that is not of their own doing, just like the French people. But they get labelled as terrorists as a result of attacks like these, and countries close their borders to them.
There are millions of refugees fleeing the wars now. Where do they have left to go?
Should there be refugees seeking asylum from ISIS, we will welcome them with open arms and grant them every hospitality. Islam teaches us to come to the aid of people in need, regardless of race or creed.
Like us, they are not terrorists.
