Agricultural workers strike over corruption allegations
KZN Democratic Alliance (DA) earlier this year called for the results of a number of forensic investigations, including that of Mjindi Farming, to be made public, referring to the results as 'damning'.

STAFF members at Mjindi Farming in Jozini embarked on a strike outside the organisation’s premises this morning, calling for, among other things, senior management to be fired.
‘We don’t need management, they are corrupt,’ said one of the striking workers.
Included in their list of demands are a 7% pay increase, 13th cheque and a monthly housing allowance of R1 200. Striking workers said management agreed to a 7% increase but refused a 13th cheque and allocated a mere R500 for the staff monthly housing allowance.
Mjindi staff members are also using their strike to highlight their demands for the results of a completed forensic investigation dating back to 2012 to be made public.

Mjindi Farming is a public entity of the Department of Agriculture. It is mandated to refurbish and maintain the Makhathini Flats’ irrigation scheme, assist with the scheme’s expansion and provide farmer development support. The organisation underwent a provincial forensic investigation following allegations of fraud and corruption.
Staff members who co-operated with the investigation allege they were intimidated and fired for doing so.
While provincial government is aware of the report’s findings, there have allegedly been no changes among Mjindi’s senior management.
