THE KWAZULU-NATAL MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu, has strongly condemned the murder of a policeman in Empangeni yesterday.
Sergeant Niren Ramsaroop (40) was shot and killed in Empangeni CBD on Saturday morning.
One man was arrested at the scene.
Mchunu expressed shock and disgust at the killing of the policeman, condemning it in the strongest possible terms.

“We are indeed shocked by this inhumane act. We condemn it and we will follow it until there is an arrest and conviction. The killing of a police officer is totally unacceptable and poses a serious threat to the generally peaceful province of KwaZulu-Natal.
“However, I am assured that members of the police will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the perpetrators of this nefarious deed are brought to justice as soon as possible.
“We also appeal to anyone with information in to this matter to report it to the police immediately so that the perpetrators can be apprehended and face the long arm of the law,” said Mchunu.
Mchunu further appealed for calm and urged everyone with information to work with the police in maintaining law and order in KwaZulu-Natal.
He also expressed his heartfelt condolences to family, friends and colleagues of policeman.
