Ahoy there! Sponsor a sailor’s mug for Christmas

Richards Bay Sea Scouts Group prepares for the 9th annual Christmas mug project.

ONCE again, it is time to look towards the festive season and the well-being of many seamen who will be far from their homes and loved ones.

Ensuring that every sailor will have a special gift to wake up to on Christmas morning, the Richards Bay Sea Scout Group is embarking on its 9th annual Christmas mug project.

The scouts will be collecting mugs and fillers in the weeks leading up to Christmas Eve and with the assistance of the Richards Bay Fire Department, will be delivering these to every ship.

The Scouts are appealing to community members to contribute to this initiative and be part of spreading some Christmas cheer.

No less than R25 should be allocated to each mug, which can be filled with sweets, lollipops and biscuits, wrapped and decorated with a handmade card indicating the donor company.

Last year the scouts delivered 460 mugs.

Alternatively, personalised company mugs can be donated, filled or unfilled, wrapped or unwrapped and the Scouts group will ensure they are delivered.

The Richards Bay Sea Scout Group will also have a table at the monthly Steel Bridge fleamarket on Saturday, 28 November and Saturday, 19 December between 9am and 2pm, where mugs and goodies may be handed in.
