MORE details have emerged surrounding the kidnapping of a three-week-old baby boy in Empangeni on Tuesday.
New reports from police sources have belayed fears that the kidnapping occurred on hospital premises, and it would appear an error was made in a police press statement sent out by the KZN Media Centre regarding the incident.
At this stage the Zululand Observer can confirm that while the Lower Umfolozi War Memorial Regional Hospital played a part in the suspect winning the 17-year-old mother over, the actual kidnapping occurred in central Empangeni.
According to the mother, she left her child with the suspect a short distance away from a supermarket, while she went to get something to eat.
When she returned, the woman and her child were gone.
The suspect was arrested two days later, and the baby taken to hospital for a check-up.
He has since been reunited with his mom, and the suspect is expected to appear in court on Monday.
