Factionalism rocks ANC leadership

Acting Regional Chairperson of the ANC in the Musa Dladla Region, Nonhle Mkhulisi speaks out at prayer meeting.

‘THE level of anger and hatred among us as ANC members in the region has reached unprecedented proportions, that’s why we are seeking divine intervention for the sake of our survival.

‘This current regional leadership is hated so much that some comrades have gone to such an extent of wishing ‘all of us here’ had died the same way as our late Chairperson Thulani Mashaba.’

These ominous words were part of the welcoming speech delivered by the Acting Regional Chairperson of the ANC in the Musa Dladla Region, Nonhle Mkhulisi.

She was speaking at the regional prayer meeting held last week at Hlanganani Hall in eSikhaleni.

She said relations within the movement were so sour that ‘you wonder if you will be safe if you were to be left with other comrades from the other side’.

‘It is in times like these where we need prayers from the faith based community.

‘There is this deep and emotional extreme dislike directed to us as the Regional Executive Committee of the ANC in Musa Dladla.

‘We need your prayers in particular as we are heading for the watershed Provincial Conference scheduled for November 6-8 in Pietermaritzburg.

‘We are going to that conference to exercise our democratic centralism, by electing the leadership we prefer,’ she said.

Zikalala favoured

The Region is known to be backing current Provincial Secretary Sihle Zikalala to take over the Chairmanship from the current Premier Senzo Mchunu.

Speaking at the same prayer meeting, Water and Sanitation Minister and ANC’s NEC Member, Nomvula Mokonyane urged the ANC leadership to arm themselves with the power of God.

‘My message to you is simple: arm yourself with the armour of God, so that when the devil strikes, you may still stand.

‘You as the current leadership of Musa Dladla must remain strong, despite all sorts of missiles that are being thrown at you.

‘You must also do away with the notion that says ‘We wish Mashaba was here’. That chapter is now closed, and the ball is in your court.

‘Similarly, Mashaba too must not rest in peace, but must live on among us,’ added Mokonyane, affectionately known as ‘Mama Action.’

The prayer was also attended by Arts and Culture Minister, Nathi Mthethwa.
