Social worker finds satisfaction in community work
Meet LifeLine Zululand social work manager Aaliyah Fransch.
LIFELINE Zululand social work manager Aaliyah Fransch has spent her working career involved in non profit organisations, finding satisfaction in serving communities.
Having moved to Richards Bay 18 years ago after working at Childline Durban, she has worked at Amangwe Village, Zululand Chamber of Business Foundation and Richards Bay Family Care.
The dynamic and passionate wife and mother of three has always been drawn to community organisations and believes the service they provide in society is vital to community development and combating social ills.
Her LifeLine portfolio includes heading up the team which facilitates victim empowerment programmes, life skills, reproductive health and the commercial sex workers programmes.
They focus on HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and adherence and the advocation of human rights as well as offering counselling services.
‘We are looking at driving programmes that focus on gender based violence awareness, rolling out of parenting programmes and working with schools and local religious organisations.
‘Out team is promoting our ‘Thursdays in Black’ 365 days campaign towards a world without rape and violence by conducting outdoor campaigns at traffic light intersections in Empangeni and Richards Bay during November, which is a build-up to the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children.’
A firm believer that learning should never end, Fransch is continuing with her studies, is completing her Masters degree which focuses on Play Therapy and also conducts workshops with University of South Africa (UNISA) students.
