UPDATE: Stanger ATM bombing thugs flee empty handed
The explosives were removed by police bomb technicians.
POLICE have confirmed that the large group of armed thugs that attempted to bomb a bank of ATM’s in the Stanger CBD yesterday morning, were forced to flee empty handed.
Apparently, police intervened in time to prevent the thugs from making off with the cash, leaving behind the explosives that would have been used to blast open the ATM’s.
The explosives were removed by police bomb technicians.
KZN Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said the female police constable who was wounded is in a stable condition.
She was shot in the stomach during a shoot-out with a heavily armed gang, rumoured to be numbered in the 20’s, as KwaDukuza police responded to reports of an ATM bombing in the Stanger CBD.
‘We are concerned that such a large number of individuals were involved in the attempt to rob the ATM, and that they attacked our police officers,’ said Zwane.
‘No stone will be left unturned as we track down these ruthless criminals.’
