Burundi man pleads guilty to ID forgery

He inserted his own photo into the identity document belonging to another man.

A BURUNDI man, Nshimirimana Jaques (33) pleaded guilty to forgery at OK Grocer Richards Bay when he appeared in the District Court on Friday.

He admitted that he unlawfully and to the potential prejudice of the Department of Home Affairs, inserted his own photo into the identity document of one Siyabonga Masango.

Jaques’ country of origin is Burundi and he entered South Africa on an temporary asylum seeker permit.

He was sentenced to R1 000 or 12 months imprisonment.
