A NEW radio patrol system implemented by the Meerensee Community Policing Forum (CPF), has vastly improved communication between patrollers and responders and is proving to be an effective crime prevention tool to promptly report suspicious activities.
However, a recent spate of highly organised break-ins, highlighted the need for more residents to join the fight against crime, especially after a street view camera captured a highly sophisticated break-in attempt at a house in Shad Shoal.
The members of a syndicate, using a brand new white Mercedes Benz, were dressed in uniform and wore similar peak caps to obscure their faces from surveillance cameras.
Many other break-ins during the daytime were executed, targeting firearms and electronic equipment, making use of high-end vehicles, .
Corrie Pretorius of Northern Region Protection Services (NRPS) said there was a vast increase in activity and reporting on chat groups, which provides excellent information.
‘We, however, ask the community not to copy and paste messages between chat groups, because the best and most reliable information is real time posts.
‘Response and co-operation between SAPS, the CPF and NRPS have improved significantly and in order to maintain such response levels and patrol initiatives, we need more residents to join the CPF and avail themselves for the cause.
‘Should any Meerensee household need assistance, they can contact any CPF, NRPS or SAPS responder or any armed response company.
To join patrols, contact CPF Patrol Coordinator, Jackson on 083 2885490.
