Action as pupils take on teachers
Heuweland Primary School staff managed to beat the girls U13A soccer side but unfortunately went down to the boys U13A side
DESPITE having to deal with the excitement of school closing for 10 days, the teachers of Heuwelland Primary School decided to take up the challenge of playing two soccer matches against the U13A boys and girls teams on Friday morning.
This was very challenging for the staff, who were certainly dressed for the occasion, but failed to come to the party.
The experienced teachers team took on a fully energised girls’ side in a 20 minute encounter, which they managed to win 3-2.
Beyers Habig and Hennie Swart managed to find the back of the net in the first half for the teachers, with Tasmin Anderson pulling one back for the pupils to take the half time score to 2-1.
Izabel Dean managed to tie the game up in the second half, after scoring a cracker of a goal, but it was Alwyn Carstens who stole a dramatic win for the teachers after scoring in the dying seconds of the game to end the scoreline at 3-2.
A tired and hot teachers’ team then braved their second clash when they took on a rampant U13A boys’ side in their second clash for the morning.
The teams were deadlocked at 0-0 going into the second half, thanks to goal keeper Rankin Grace, who pulled out all the stops in the teachers’ goals making some super saves.
But it came down to a handball in the teachers’ box, which Khulusanda Sithole managed to sneak past Grace to hand the boys a 1-0 victory. In this case the teacher literally became the pupil.
‘It was a great way to end the school term and the day. The children have worked really hard this term in the classroom and on the sports field, so the holiday is really welcome,’ said teacher Alwyn Carstens.
