Gospel choir makes headlines in Prague
Zululand Gospel Choir wows international audience at Peace concert.
MEMBERS of the Zululand Gospel Choir added some African flavour to an international event when they participated in the Concert of Peace in the Czech Republic this month.
Hosted by the South African Embassy as part of the ‘In the name of Love’ project, the choir joined a number of local artists, including internationally renowned singer Lucie Kostelecká.
Although performing only gospel music, the choir remains grounded in its traditional dances and rhythms, displaying the true heritage of South Africa.
The Czech Republic, well-known for inviting South African artists to perform at local concerts, is the first country abroad to be toured by the choir.
Established in 2006 by Franklyn Mkhize and Alfred Banda of G-tazz Records, the choir consists of 25 members and a five piece band.
All members range between the ages of 18 and 35.
Most members are unemployed, making this trip a once in a lifetime experience.
Dignitaries present at the concert were taken aback by the performance and mentioned that gospel choirs in the Czech Republic should take inspiration from the energetic and spontaneous dancing that is reflected by the Zululand Gospel Choir.
