A RAPE victim gained a sense of closure on Tuesday when the Pongola Regional Court convicted and sentenced her rapist to 15 years behind bars.
Maqhawe Mlungisi Buthelezi (23) approached his 17-year-old victim as she was walking home from a shop in KwaMabophe area, Pongola on 10 January.
He dragged her to an incomplete building where he raped her. The victim’s cousin, who had been walking with her, alerted community members who caught Buthelezi in the act and handed him over to the authorities.
