SPAR shopping voucher message is a scam

More WhatsApp and SMS scams are doing their rounds.

THERE is once again a scam doing its rounds on WhatsApp or SMS claiming to be a SPAR survey.

Please do not respond to this as it is a hoax and in no way linked to My SPAR.

The scam claims to be part of a SPAR initiative and urges people to click on a link in order to complete a survey. Before completing the survey they are also asked to share the fictitious details with ten friends. Upon completing all of the prompts, the individual will supposedly qualify for a R6 500 voucher.

However, instead of qualifying for a voucher, the unsuspecting victim is inadvertently subscribed to an automatic daily subscription service, which deducts R7 from his or her cellphone bill.

It would appear that by taking this fictitious survey, users are inadvertently subscribing to a daily charge of R7.

SPAR statement:

We would like to make everyone aware that there is currently a scam doing its rounds on WhatsApp and SMS claiming to be a SPAR survey and offering the possibility of winning a R6 500 voucher. Please do not respond. This is a hoax and is in no way, linked to SPAR in Namibia or South Africa.
