Protest response team formed

City of uMhlathuze readies in case of service delivery protests.

THE City of uMhlathuze has established a ‘Rapid Response Team’ (RRT) to react proactively and positively in the event of impending service delivery protests.

However, every effort will be made to pre-empt marches and strike action through communication and local engagement.

The city has experienced two service delivery protests this year: in rural ward 10 – in reaction to perceived non-delivery of a water project, and in adjacent ward 11 – over alleged ‘councillor absence’.

The RRT comprises:

Cllr MW Mthenjana (Convenor) – Speaker; Dr NJ Sibeko – Municipal Manager; N Mthethwa – Chief Operations Officer; M Kunene – Chief financial Services; S Masondo – DMM Corporate Services; T Gopane – DMM Infrastructure and Technical Services; N Ndonga – DMM City Development; M Oliphant – DMM Community Services.
