Post boxes replaced in Aquadene
The postboxes were destroyed by rust, causing letters and documents to be damaged when it rained.
A NEW post box unit was delivered in Aquadene last week, three months after residents complained about the dilapidated state of the previous boxes.
Ward 26 committee member, Sheilla Dunn had received numerous complaints from residents venting their frustration over the post box unit, which was destroyed by rust and in run down condition, causing their letters and documents to be damaged when it rained.
She had submitted a letter of complaint and a petition to the Richards Bay Post Office and the postal service promised to find a spare unit from elsewhere in the country to replace the existing one.
Dunn said she was happy that the matter has been attended to as residents were losing important post and documents, owing to the poor condition of the boxes.
‘Residents had also complained about the sandy area around the boxes and we requested the municipality to create a pedestrian walkway, which has now been constructed.
‘The walkway is extended to the community pool as well.
‘The municipality has erected a boundary to deter vehicles from parking near the boxes and to enable the grass to grow again,’ she said.
