WATCH: VIPs arrive for the SATMAs

The City is ready for the SATMA Awards this weekend.

WITH just two days until the 10th annual South African Traditional Music Achievement Awards (SATMA) celebration, the City of uMhlathuze is ready for the spectacular show.

VIP guests arrived at Richards Bay airport amid fanfare yesterday afternoon. The Empangeni High School marching band welcomed; USA President, Barack Obama’s grandmother, Sarah and his uncle Said Obama. Also in the entourage is cousin, Moses Obama and family friend, Debora Akello.

SATMA founder, Dr Dumsami Goba and SATMA International Relations Officer, Sduduzo ka Mbili.

The SATMA Awards will take place on 2 and 3 October at the University of Zululand – King Bhekuzulu Hall.

* Sarah Onyango Obama is the 3rd wife of Obama’s paternal grandfather, born 1922. She lives in Nyang’oma Kogelo village, 30 miles west of western Kenya’s main town, Kisumu, on the edge of Lake Victoria.

Although she is not a blood relation, Barack Obama calls her “Granny Sarah”. She speaks Luo and only a few words of English, communicates with President Obama through an interpreter.
