Arrest their mother!

Tragedy as four siblings perish in fire

THE community of Jozini’s Gedleza area is demanding the arrest of a mother whose four young children, locked up and trapped in their house, died in fire which razed their home to the ground on Sunday night.

The community claim the 30-year-old mother was negligent in leaving her children, aged between 19 months and 10 years, locked up and unsupervised in the house.

Police have opened an inquest docket and are investigating the events leading up to the incident.

SAPS provincial spokesman, Col Jay Naicker, says the cause of the fire is still unknown, but confirmed reports that the children were alone in the house at the time of the fire at 9pm.

The children have been identified as Amkelwa Kwesaba (19 months), Nkosingizwile Mazibuko (2), Noxolo Mazibuku (7) and Sinegugu Mazibuko (10).

Eyewitnesses reported a loud bang before seeing the house ablaze.

It is suspected that a candle or paraffin lamp being used for lighting, ignited gas bottles.

The resulting explosion had neighbours rushing to the scene to assist.

They were shocked to find the bodies of the children.
