‘IT was just a bad day at the office and now we get back to normal.’
That’s the confident statement from Thanda Royal Zulu Head coach, Thami Ngubane following Amabhubesi’s 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Baroka FC on Sunday.
‘There’s no excuses; we simply took too long to get into the game and then when we did, we never capitalised on the numerous chances we created, especially for the first 20 minutes of the second half when we were all over them.
‘Had we put away two or three goals it would have been a different game.’
Without four of their top players for the last three matches, Thanda most significantly felt the leadership absence and calming influence of Evander Spandiel in the midfield.
But they could all be back, and a friendly match was arranged for Wednesday to check fitness and readiness levels.
Ngubane, for whom the loss on Sunday was the first in his 25 matches as coach, has no doubt this weekend’s away fixture against Vasco da Gama will see his side back to their normal best.
‘We have bounced back from far worse situations than this.
‘Last season we were written off, at the bottom of the log for half the season, but we climbed right up to challenge for top spot.’
Vasco could well feel the lions’ backlash in the Cape on Sunday.
