Nkandla prioritizes electricity supply

R181-million not enough - Nkandla mayor

ELECTRICITY infrastructure will receive the lion’s share of Nkandla Municipality’s R181-million budget for 2015/16.

According to Nkandla Mayor Thamsanqa Ntuli,R35-million will be spent in the upcoming financial year in a bid to bring electricity to every home by the end of 2016.

‘Although R181-million is not enough to serve the poor community of Nkandla, we will try to improve the lives of our 115 000 residents through service delivery,’ he said.

R3-million has been allocated for the training of entrepreneurs in the small business sector with the aim of boosting local economy, while R212 000 has been put aside for the construction of an FET college.

‘We want to stop seeing our children leaving their homes to find training in other areas.’

Water services will also feature strongly in the IDP strategy the municipality presented for the coming year, with the mayor promising to ask the district for more JoJo tanks.

‘Even if we come from different parties inside the Nkandla municipality, our aim is to bring service delivery to the community.’
