Empangeni Rugby Club demolished uMfolozi by 123 runs in a Weber Cup match at Addison Park on Saturday

EMPANGENI Rugby Club claimed a dominant 123-run victory over unbeaten uMfolozi in a Weber Cup cricket match at Addison Park on Saturday.

After mutual agreement, Empangeni padded up and headed out to the middle on a dry, hard, grass pitch and managed to post 213/7 in their allotted 45 overs.

This was the highest score posted so far this season and was the first time that a team batted out their required overs.

Eugene Zwart (52) and Simon Savides (51) knocked half tons with the bat, making the visiting side chase leather all around the park.

Mtubatuba bowler Reinhardt Hedder 3/40 in 9 overs and KwaMbonambi veteran Errol Boule 1/27 in 9 were the pick of the uMfolozi bowlers.

uMfolozi needed 4.75 runs per over for victory, but were were dismissed for a dismal 90.

Opening batsmen Zakhele Ntuli top scored with 32 after being dropped at the start of his innings.

Spinner Stephan Joubert 4/2 in 4 and Eugene Zwart 3/13 in 6 demolished the visiting side’s batting line-up.

Empangeni will travel to the eShowe Sports Grounds on Sunday for their next match.

uMfolozi will take on uMhlathuze at the uMhlathuze Regional Sports Complex on Saturday.
