I FOUND the article about the capturing of a stray crocodile in Meerensee cruel and misguided.
It brutally antagonised an innocent animal to create a darkly humorous tale that I failed to find funny.
I grew more and more upset at how the crocodile was depicted as a savage beast in the article and the inhumane treatment it received at the time of its capture.
The final straw for me was when Yolanda Gielink quipped that she could fashion out of the animal a fancy handbag and boots.
If that is not animal cruelty, I don’t know what is.
It is a pity that what seems to me like the most pertinent issue of the article is an afterthought dished out in a single quote.
The poor crocodile is being driven out of its natural habitat by a drought.
The alligator’s only crime was being hungry. Where’s the humour in that?
