Political party seeks to end Bok’s World Cup Rugby bid

Political party looks to put spoke in Springbok's wheel.

A SMALL political party, namely The Agency for New Agenda’s is seeking an urgent order from the North Gauteng High Court for SARU to surrender the Boks’ passports in order to prevent the squad from competing in the prestigious Rugby World Cup.

This coming after coach Heyneke Meyer only selected nine (30 percent) ‘players of colour’ in his squad and not 60 percent as wanted by the party.

The party also wants the court to order that a judicial commission of inquiry be set up to look into transformation in SA rugby.

The organisation argues that the 31-man Springbok squad isn’t in line with the government’s policy on transformation and is mainly white.

Bok winger Bryan Habana, who will be playing in his third World Cup, said he fully supported Meyer.

‘This is unfortunately something that is always going to be a part of South African rugby,

‘I’m fully behind Heyneke’s standing in the situation and wanting to make this World Cup a successful one for South Africa,’ said Habana.
