Jansen bolts to new records
The 14-year-old sprinter from Felixton College had to compete in a higher age group and smashed the 200m, 400m and 800m records.
KAYLA Jansen dominated the girls U15 section of the Zululand Observer inter-school athletics league, run over four consecutive weeks.
She bettered seven records, topped the individual point standings and claimed the Junior Victrix Ludorum honours.
The 14-year-old sprinter from Felixton College had to compete in a higher age group and smashed the 200m, 400m and 800m records.
This year saw the first leg being held at Grantleigh Schools, the second at Felixton College (rained out), with Richardsbaai Hoërskool and eShowe High hosting the third and fourth legs.
Jansen bettered the 200m and 400m records at the first, third and fourth legs of the competition and the 800m at the last leg in eShowe.
She trains five times a week with coach Deon Barrington for an hour-and-a-half, working on speed, strength, endurance and technique.
‘I am so proud of Kayla for smashing seven records out of the nine events she competed in over the three legs. She really deserves it and it is great to see her hard work paying off,’ said Barrington.
