Shaka Challenge proves popular

THE Zululand Kayak Club was a hive of activity on Saturday with the annual Shaka Challenge taking place.
Participants competed in a fun 10km trail run and a timed 30km canoe race and 12km mountain bike (MTB) race.
Hank McGregor and Lee Furby paddled to victory in a time of 1:27:31:27, with Robart Scrase pedaling to first spot in the MTB race with a time of 30:30.
McGregor and Furby managed to clock the fastest time ever in the three years of the event.
Results
Canoeing doubles – 1 Hank McGregor and Lee Furby 1:27:31:27, 2 Wayne Wilson and Bailey de Fondaumiere 1:30:44:30 and 3 Bruce Wenke and Linton Hope 1:30:47:53.
Canoeing singles – 1 Barry Lewin 1:41:23:58, 2 Mark Lewin 1:49:05:46 and Wade Stevens 1:59:14:87.
Mountain bike – 1 Robart Scrase 30:30, 2 Ronnie Ackerman 30:50 and 3 Piet Jordan 32:16.
