A pupil was stabbed to death on the streets of Melmoth, shortly after a cultural dance competition.

A 17-YEAR-OLD school pupil died and another narrowly escaped death after being stabbed during a fight late on Friday night in the Melmoth CBD.

According to reports, Melmoth was overrun with children drinking and fighting after a cultural dance competition organised by the Department of Education.

An eyewitness told the Zululand Observer that a horde of pupils entered town, gathering at several spots where they started drinking and partying.

Allegedly several were arrested for fighting in the streets and several gunshots were also heard.
