THE International Fellowship of Cricket Loving Rotarians (IFCR) XI took on the Empangeni Rotarians XI in what could be described as the ‘battle of the legends’ at Addison Park on Saturday.
Empangeni captain Rusty Barnes won the toss and elected to bat first, which suited opposing captain Gerald Sieberhagen (also the president of the IFCR) due to the moisture in the pitch.
The IFCR managed to restrict Empangeni to a modest 119 all out in their allotted 26 overs and managed to reach 119/8 in their 26 overs to tie the game.
This game was played in preparation of the eighth World Rotary Cricket Festival in Nottingham, England in July 2014.
There were scouts on hand to select local players to represent the South African Rotarian team – ‘Proterians’.
The game was played to promote fellowship of cricket amongst Rotarians and build on friendships.
