Weber Cup cricket wrap up
Empangeni will take on Richards Bay at Addison Park on Saturday.
WEBER Cup cricket is currently in full swing, with the second round fixtures being played over the weekend.
This year sees six regions competing in the 45-over competition.
In week one, uMhlathuze beat Empangeni by 20 runs at Addison Park, with eShowe claiming a walkover victory after Richards Bay failed to field a team.
Saturday’s action saw defending champions Schools XI beating Empangeni at Addison Park, with uMfolozi beating Richards Bay at the uMhlathuze Regional Sports Complex.
eShowe managed to beat uMhlathuze by four wickets at home on Sunday.
School lesson
Captain Trevor Kietzmann won the toss for the Schools XI and decided to bat first on a flat batting track at Addison Park.
The Schools side were bowled out for 151 in the 38th over.
Timothy Russell top scored with 43, with Kietzmann adding 28.
Empangeni needed to score at 3.35 runs per over to claim the win, but fell short at the crease when the team was dismissed for 121.
Paceman Roland Fourie ended with figures of 2/20 in five overs.
Zululand veteran Errol Boullé lead the way for uMfolozi in their eight wicket victory over Richards Bay on Saturday, when he picked up four scalps.
Sunday cricket
In Sunday’s match-ups, uMhlathuze headed out to the middle first at the eShowe Sports Ground and posted 127 all out.
Owen Govender reached his half century (51 not out) for the visitors, with Angus Kramer leading with the nut with figures of 3/17 in 7.
eShowe chased the total down with the loss of six wickets (129/6).
Rob Adams notched up 65, with Rajen Govender ending with bowling figures of 3/15 in 7.
